“You’ve got to know what you want. This is central to acting on your intentions. When you know what you want, you realize that all there is left then is time management. You’ll manage your time to achieve your goals because you clearly know what you’re trying to achieve in your life. ”

~ Patch Adams

One of my favorite tales is an Irish one namedThe Fairies Gift. In the story a poor woodcutter saves a fairy from a predator and in return is granted one wish. At first he thinks how fortunate he is and he imagines all the things he could wish for. He returns home and tells his family. He is reminded that his wife has always wanted a baby, his mother is blind, and the father reminds his son that they have been so poor that gold would be the answer. fairy

The wish all of a sudden feels like a burden and the woodcutter becomes so confused that he storms out of his cottage and hikes through the field, to the forest and into the mountain where he sits until night fall. At dusk, he sees a shooting star and in an instant he knows what he must do.

When he returns to the cottage his family is sitting in anticipation. One wish, what will it be…the baby, his mother’s sight, or the gold? At last he takes out the magic stone and says, “I wish that my mother will see our new baby lying in a golden cradle.” And with that one wish he made everyone’s dream come true.

Intentions are like wishes. They are our dreams for the future, for our lives. And sometimes we can have so many desires or unclear desires that we can become as confused as the woodcutter.   I know lots of people have given up setting goals for the New Year. I’m not one of them. I like taking time at the end of the year reflect on where I am and where I am going.

If you only had one wish this year, what would you wish for? What are you willing to put your time and energy into? If you could complete one thing what would it be? Life will pass us by whether we wish or not. But when we wish and schedule it into our lives wishes do come true.

Imagine you’ve been given one wish 2015. What would you wish for?
